Over thirty people turned out for this year’s guided walk of the Monaghan Way as part of the Muckno Mania festival 2026.
Two buses were arranged to bring participants to the trailhead in Inniskeen, sponsored by Irish Homecare and by MID. One bus collected walkers at Castleblayney Enterprise Centre, the other brought participants from Carrickmacross.
Led by experienced local guide Dan McNally, the group walked the route from the Patrick Kavanagh Centre in Inniskeen all the way to the site of the former railway house at Corcullionglish, Culloville. The trail follows farm tracks, country lanes, open fields, and sections of the former Great Northern Railway line close the river Fane.
The walk took approximately three and a half hours in glorious July weather, with a very welcome breeze taking the edge off the heat. While the full route stretches all the way from Inniskeen to Annadrumman at Lough Muckno, everyone was very happy to get to Culloville and call it a day.
Thank you to Tommy McGuire at Castleblayney Enterprise Centre, our guides Dan and Terence, to MID’s Migrant Support Worker Leila Nessakh and to everyone who participated on the day.
While guided walk events like this one are a great introduction to the trail, the Monaghan Way is open to all every day of the year (except Christmas Day), thanks to the generous consent of landowners all along the route.
