Caring for and Protecting our Water
Monaghan Integrated Development has teamed up with Flynn Furney Environmental Consultants to deliver training (one evening per week across 4 weeks) that aims to empower and equip individuals and local community groups with practical learning on how to look after and monitor water quality in their local catchments. The course will examine long-term solutions for improving water quality for the benefit of ourselves and for local fauna, flora and other living things!
The training is open to everyone, from Tidy Towns Groups to farmers, anglers, walkers, wildlife groups, residents and any individual with an interest in gaining a greater understanding of how to contribute to improving local water quality.
The main themes will include:
- A brief introduction to the concept of water catchment management and to the nature of our lakes and rivers and wetlands.
- Understanding the need to conserve and protect our water resources and associated biodiversity.
- Capacity and knowledge of best practice in environmental management and the steps required to implement small projects to protect water and biodiversity in a safe manner.
- Understanding how citizen science and data capture can be used to better understand and manage local waterbodies.
- Helping participants to develop local biodiversity and water management projects in their towns, villages and local communities.
- Supporting and encouraging participants to communicate their actions to the wider community.
- The course will end with an additional one-day field/study visit to a special location to showcase the benefits of best practice water management projects.
We are inviting applications to participate in this training. The course is FREE and is funded by the 2023-2027 LEADER Programme.
