Tús

What is Tús?

Tús is a community workplace Initiative. Tús is available for people who are unemployed and on Jobseekers payment or on Disability Allowance from the Department of Social Protection (DSP) for the past 12 months. Tús provides short-term suitable community work placements with a wide variety of community, charity and voluntary groups/organisations in the local area and basic training is provided to all participants.

How Tús Works

The Department of Social Protection randomly selects individuals from the live register and write to them to determine if they are interested in participating in the scheme. At this point the names and contact details of the interested individuals are sent to MID. All the people referred to MID are invited to attend an informal interview with a Tús Supervisor to try and match them with community work opportunities identified in their locality.

The supervisor will discuss various options with you such as what line of work you would like or what hours suit you and then arrange a meeting with the organisation to see if it is suitable for you.

Potential work placements include:

  • Administration and
  • Reception
  • Tidy Towns worker
  • Retail Assistant
  • Caretaker
  • Cleaner
  • Childcare support
  • Kitchen Assistant

and more.

The various types of work carried out under Tús are all part-time and involve 19.5 hours and a payment of at least €271.50 per week. Each placement lasts 12 months.

Unemployed individuals wishing to find out more can make contact with Monaghan Integrated Development directly or any member of the Tús Team.

Eligibility

To be eligible for selection for the Tús scheme you must:

  • Have been continuously unemployed for at least 12 months and “signing on” on a full-time basis
  • Be currently receiving Jobseeker’s Allowance

Each participant is provided with a 12 month contract and during this time they have the on-going support of the Tús Supervisors employed by MID, as well as the support of the key contact in the community group where they are placed. While on the programme, participants are supported in their efforts to get as much benefit from the experience as possible.

Community and Voluntary Groups

Monaghan Integrated Development (MID) continually promotes the Tús programme and are looking for new groups based in either rural or urban areas who wish to be considered to host placements. Tús is an excellent opportunity for community groups in Monaghan who are looking for workers to carry out work in the categories listed below.

The types of project eligible for the scheme may include:
